Hunter Martinez

December 2020

Hunter was your typical three year old boy. Roughing up his older brother, digging in the dirt and playing with his cars. Life was “normal” for us until Hunter started to have some belly pain. We first thought maybe he got rough with his brother or someone at school but then became concerned when we could notice a bump in his belly. We took him into the urgent care and were quickly rushed up to a local hospital for further testing. That was the night we found out Hunter had bilateral Wilm’s Tumors. We couldn’t believe it and wanted the doctors to be wrong and say “sorry it wasn’t cancer”. But no, it was cancer and not only was it bilateral Wilm’s, but then learned it had also invaded his liver. This was such a shock to our very active and on the go family. We love to travel and be outside! Dad is a firefighter/Paramedic and Mom was working as an office manager until COVID hit. Our family has endured many struggles, but this has been the hardest challenge for us in every way. Hunter loves to run, play floor is lava, work on projects with dad and play with his older brother. We feel so blessed to have so many family, friends and people come together to help Hunter and our family through this most difficult time. Thank you!
